I was wondering how many members here would be willing to pay to play VMK? If so, how much would you be willing to pay each month? Please vote, thanks!

We'll probably send Disney a link to this poll.

I would, but no more than $10-$15 a month.

I would pay to play, if it meant an improvement in game play (as in, more powerful servers, etc.) I think somewhere between 5 and 10 dollars per month - which seems to be a common rate for MMOPG would be acceptable. Much more than that and I'd have to think a bit about it.

I do think that $10 sounds about right. I would also be willing to pay the $10 a month, and still purchase merchandise that gives codes for credits or virtual items.

Call me crazy but I put myself in the $15-$20 price range, I just want my VMK. I don't play other MMOPG games so I have no idea what the going rate is for something like that. The one online games site I pay for is a yearly cost and that's only about $40.
$15-20 does seem high but hey it's Disney we pay what like $4 for a soda in the parks no? lol

As much as I would want to pay if it saved VMK from closing, I really don't think it's fair. I don't have a lot of money personally, so even $5-$10 per month is a lot seeing as I get $60 per month and I have to pay for my own clothes and stuff like that. I don't think it's fair for people who may not be able to pay, because they don't get the privileges of the people who do, only because they didn't pay $5-$10.

I chose the option 0-5 dollars a month. I chose that because I'm a kid who has... maybe twenty dollars. And I was saving that up so I could get a video camera that I have been wanting for a while. But, I'd be willing to pay five bucks a month and give up some things that I would just want, instead of need. I'd even go up to 10 bucks a month if I had to, but much more than that would be too much for me to play this virtual game.

I hope a lot of folks are clicking on "yes I would pay to play", and that Disney gets to see the results of this poll - and that hopefully other VMK fan sites are planning to run similar polls & forward the results to Disney.
My gut tells me that the only chance we have to save VMK is if Disney corporate gets the feeling that enough people would pay to keep the site up, so that it would be worth the expense to them.
Even with Disney, it's about the dollars & cents.

There could be some interesting ways to pay to play.
Pay for IP Address
Pay per character
Pay for year
pay for moon
lots of ways they can go with it

It depends on how the site sets up the payment plan - sometimes it is by individual computer, sometimes by user login credentials, sometimes by "household" (IP address) so there are any number of options.

I have never payed for an online game. Unless you count that I bought one game after the free trial thing was over, there were odd circumstances involved though.
But seriously everyone, would you have started playing VMK when you did and invested all the time and effort into it if:
1) It had cost anything at the time?
2) You had any idea that they would end it quite suddenly like this?
Honestly now.
My answer is No to both.
Here's part of a rant I'm working on with both here, Disney, and anyone else who will listen in mind. It's still in progress as I tend to wander.
All this talk of pay for play really bothers me. A part of why I joined and loved VMK was that it was free. Meaning that it was open to anyone and everyone willing to follow VMK's rules and values. Which made me wary in another way, but it really seemed like staff went a long way to keep VMK safe. I literally felt like cheering. Keep in mind that Disney is a multi million dollar company. Earning royalties off "classics" and basically everything they were ever associated with movies, soundtracks, Broadway, merchandise, etc. not to mention park admission and volumes of things to massive to list. Willing to repay the adoring Disney fans with a free website, kept safe and made for kids but still welcoming to adults like myself that love Disney and gaming. Or even who just want to check out what our kids are into. While maintaining a sense of security with annoying (at times) measures. I do appreciate the effort. It seems harsh at times, especially if like myself you often misspell words or even have a typo but it really seemed like they cared. True Disney is foremost (in my mind at least) when it comes to "exclusive" merchandise and "collectors items" and VMK was no exception. If you were a parent trying to get your kids a few Cars the movie cars during the time when that movie was recently released you might understand the deeply seeded contempt I have come to hold those terms with. But it still filled me with all these warm and fuzzy emotions with a hope, thinking that there might still be some simple honesty and goodness left in the world after all. Now it all just seems like another marketing ploy for a enormous company that bought out all the competition they could. Massive, heartless and devouring. Have you watched some of those classics lately? I mean really watched?
It's painful discrepancies, racial stereotypes, at the time breakthrough animation is now days pretty sad.
Edit to add it: It would sit much easier with me if they didn't close so suddenly like this. Will they just get bored with their other worlds soon and can them suddenly too? I could choke down a $20-25 one time fee. Monthly just leaves a bad taste.

Don't You Mean Ear.

Either Way Of Course I Would Go For The $0-$5.
Simply Because I Have No Job, And I Am Not At The Age To Be Legally Employed.
If I Were To Have A Job I Would Choose $5-$10, But Don't Count On It.

Besides That I Don't Want To Lose All The Things I have Worked For On Vmk.

I'd pay $5-10
My mom said she'd pay anything for VMK (Is she trying to get rid of me or something? lol)
But if Disney would make kids pay $20 a month.. I'd be pretty angry.
I'm not sure if there are more players (But I'm pretty sure there are) than that approximate 5,000 players than are on when I see the online player count on the homepage.
But even if we only had to pay $1 per month.
Hey, thats about $5,000 more than you previously made!
Although, If I lost all my VMK information (items, credits, rooms, and friends).. I would have to think really hard about paying for it!

That's a good question. If they did convert to pay for play and all our VMK stuff is gone, I'd think twice about paying for the service.
I guess the norm for all these online games would be 5-10 a month, or 49.95 for an entire year. I was at Target the other day and was looking at all the MMPORG cards they had for sale there and there were about say 7 games they had available to buy cards for (and surprised to see Neopets being pay for play). Also, I was surfing the Disney.com site and found "Disney Games Kingdom" and they had only two options to signing on - either 4.95 for the first month/9.95 each month there after -OR- 49.95 for a full year. Blah, didn't sign up of course. Wanted to see what they had to offer.
Anyways, if they did (ever) decide to make VMK pay for play I'd like to keep my VMK Stuff intact. If they make us sign up with a NEW log in/character I think that would make me angry/sad/etc.

I understand, part of me would pay anything to be able to keep VMK alive. Since I do have bills and times are tight on the old wallet and some other things come first I can't justify spending that much on a game. Even if I have invested a lot in building my character.
IMO if they could save VMK by making it pay for play, there would definitely have to be some conditions. Like (as said before) keeping what our characters have earned and built. And hopefully some improvements, starting with longer hours. lol
I got Dream ears from TD magic today. I'm still not sure if I should be happy about it or not. I was going to try really hard to go to Disneyland this summer a big motivation was so I could buy stuff with codes for my character...

I've been debating whether I would or not ever since I heard the news of VMK closing. I've thought of pros and cons and at the moment, I'm leaning toward yes, I would pay to play. If we had pay to play with VMK the same as it is now, I'd be willing to pay $0-$5, but if we actually saw some sort of improvement or upgrade when it because pay to play, I'd go to $5-$10.

yessss i would pay to play VMK, it's my favorite.
Most other online games that have subscriptions usually don't make you pay more than 10 dollars, although it's usually 5$ (per month)
Others will let you subscribe for a year, and instead of paying 5$ for 12 months, they might let you pay 50$ per year. It saves you 10$ if you play all 12 months, but if you quit then you can't get your money back.
Some payment plans include===
per IP address
per character
per household ((all of these have already been mentioned, though !!!

))
I think disney would most likely go for the "per character" which means that if you have 5 characters in VMK, then you would be paying 25$ per month instead of 5$...
Well, thanks for reading!

But why would VMK make people pay to play because most parents dont want to waste their money on a computer game. So if they made people pay they would be losing a lot of players who dont have a lot of money. If it's closing May 21 they better decide if they are going to make players pay or if they are just going to close it..

Well, either way, I would pay for it. My parents would never ever pay for something like this. But, they would approve of me paying for it. It would get me ready for the "real" world.
I think a pay to play option would be all right. I'm sure they wouldn't have to make it that much for people to keep playing. $5-$10 would totally be fine with anyone on my book. If they really love it they would play. If not they wouldn't pay and leave for another game.
Just my opinion.
